The Word Luke 6:38 (NIV) "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
The Application We all know the saying "What goes around, comes around". In other words, life is like a boomerang. Whatever you throw will come back to you, eventually. No, it is not in the Bible and I do not believe it got started in the church, but it does have a lot of truth in it. The apostle Luke tells us in Luke 6 that what you give, you will also receive (paraphrasing Luke 6:38). You might ask at this point, "If I give, what?". I believe he is talking about all of the things that a human being can possibly give. He is talking about money, love, hate, mercy, intolerance, peace, anger, patience, impatience, kindness, rudeness, joy, sadness, goodness, evil, gentleness, roughness, etc., etc. Anything that you give, you will receive back. Our words and acts are seeds that fall on people's hearts. These seeds will grow in the hearts of the people that you plant them in. We are continuously planting something. And you will receive the fruits of those seeds, eventually. "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows" (Galatians 6:7). We plant seeds all day long without being conscious of it. And whatever seeds you plant, you will receive back. And I believe that what you receive back is in a greater proportion than what you planted. Why? Seeds can be small but produce huge crops. A little seed can become a huge tree. Jesus said, "the kingdom of God is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches" (Luke 13:19). This tells me that the things that come back our way can be of greater proportion and consequences than the ones we originally planted. Uhum? Scary! What we feed others will be fed back to us. If we give bitterness, we will receive bitterness. If we give unkind words, we will receive unkind words. If we give encouragement, we will receive encouragement. If you give unconditional love and appreciation, you are very likely to receive in kind. What are you feeding those that God has put in your life? There are no coincidences in God's kingdom. Those people are there for you to bless them and build them up. God wants to use you to plant seeds of His kingdom in these people. And He tells you in His word that these good seeds will come back as huge trees to bless you also. Is He awesome or what? You obey God and become a blessing to others and in the process you get a huge return on your investments of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. What are you feeding to your husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend? Your actions and words can bring out the best in your partner or it can bring out the worst. It all depends on your actions and words to that person. Remember, you are planting something in their hearts. What are you planting in their hearts. Be careful, be very careful of what you plant. What you are planting in their hearts will grow and it will COME BACK TO YOU! If you are not feeding your loved ones love, encouragement and support, you should consider, seriously, changing your diet. You might need to feed yourself a little more on the Word of God. "For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks" (Luke 6:45). If you are experiencing some problems with the kind of seeds that you are planting around you, try putting more of the Word of God in your diet. Whatever lies in your heart, will come out of your mouth. If you hide the Word of God in your heart, you will give from His abundance love and wisdom. "But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man unclean" Matthew 15:18). But in the same token, what comes out of your mouth can become sees of sanctification in someone else's life. Today, let's make a New Year resolution of watching carefully what we are planting and deciding to plant only seeds that proceed from the fruits of the Holy Spirit that lives in us. Heavenly Father, "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer" (Psalm 19:14). Father, keep me in Your Word so that "y mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding" (Psalm 49:3). Father, give me a sensitive heart that is always in tune with Your heart. I need a heart that is prompt to give a word of comfort and encouragement and never a word of evil. I desire to exhort and build up and never to destroy and bring down. Give me what I need every day so that I can be used by You to bless. Thank You Lord for listening to my prayers, You always listen to me. Thank You for my sweet Jesus who brought me back to You forever. In my sweet Jesus name I ask. Amen. Inspired by the Holy Spirit |
